About Dr. Brent Wainwright, MD

Brent D. Wainwright, M.D. completed an internship in internal medicine at Yale University School of Medicine - Norwalk Hospital Program. He subsequently completed a research fellowship in Immunodermatology at New York University Medical Center; as recipient of a prestigious National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health, he worked to develop improved diagnostic methods to monitor malignant melanoma. His research was followed by a residency in dermatology at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine where he served as Chief-Resident.

Dr. Wainwright has a special interest in pigmented lesions (moles, melanoma) and has supplementary training in dermoscopy, a painless and noninvasive technique used to help dermatologists better visualize pigmented skin lesions.

With seven years of international environmental consulting experience (including health and safety assessment, environmental risk analysis, and hazardous material management), Dr. Wainwright brings expertise to the area of environmental skin disease and skin allergies.

Dr. Wainwright holds a faculty appointment at the New York University School of Medicine where he attends resident dermatology clinic and participates in both the Melanoma Cooperative Group and Pigmented Lesion Unit. He is Board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and, a Fellow of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. His original papers have been printed in several scientific journals including Archives of Dermatology, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and, the New England Journal of Medicine. He is a recipient of the Fred Wise, MD Award by the New York Academy of Medicine. Last year, Dr. Wainwright was honored to receive an award as part-time teaching attending of the year, an award recognizing his dedication to teaching junior doctors at NYU.
