About Dr. Jeffrey Brackeen, MD

Dr. Brackeen is a Lubbock native and a graduate of Lubbock High School. He earned his BS in biology at Abilene Christian University and his MD at the Texas A&M HSC College of Medicine. He did an internship in family practice in Waco, Texas. He completed residencies in dermatology and anatomic and clinical pathology at Texas Tech HSC, where he currently serves as an assistant professor in both the dermatology and pathology departments. Dr. Brackeen is a veteran of the US Navy and served as a flight surgeon for both the Navy and Marines Corps here in the US and overseas.  He is board certified in dermatology, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology and maintains privileges at both Covenant hospital and at University Medical Center.

Dr. Brackeen has a passion for the fight against skin cancer and founded Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Institute to help in this mission. He has served on medical advisory boards for skin cancer treatments as well as skin cancer laboratory and tissue tests.  In addition, he has served as an expert presenter and spokesman for the Skin Cancer Foundation, Melanoma Research Foundation, and for numerous educational events. He has also started local community outreach programs to teach about skin cancer prevention and detection. He also helps with a number of annual skin cancer screenings including several for professional sports organizations. As a professional member of the Skin Cancer Foundation, Dr. Brackeen has been inducted into the prestigious Amonette Circle. In addition to skin cancer, he also treats other common skin conditions and diseases. When he is away from the office, Dr. Brackeen enjoys hiking, fishing, camping, hunting and playing with the family dog, Budd. He raises longhorn on a few acres outside of Post, Texas. Most of all, he loves spending time with his wife and three children. Dr. Brackeen's wife, Amy Brackeen is also a local dermatologist.
