Laser Treatment for Spider Veins

New laser technology now provides an effective and safe means to treat spider veins, particularly on the face.

When applied to the skin over the spider veins, the heat generated by the laser light causes the spider veins to shrink. Laser treatment is most effective for small to medium-sized spider veins. Large spider veins respond poorly and are best treated with sclerotherapy or other therapies.

Laser treatment can be mild painful, similar to having a small rubber band snapped against skin. However, treatments usually do not require the use of sedatives or pain medications.

Immediately after being treated with a laser, the spider veins may first darken and become more readily visible. Then, over 2-6 weeks, the treated veins will start to fade away. Multiple treatments are often required, spaced by 2-3 months, to provide the best results.
