Rosacea is an inflammation of the middle of the face that causes symptoms similar to acne. There are pimples, pustules and cysts, but there are no blackheads or whiteheads. “This is what differentiates rosacea from acne”, according to Cleveland area dermatologist Dr. Helen Torok.
While there are many prescription rosacea medications used to control rosacea, there is no known cure.
Prescription medications used by Dr. Torok and her colleagues at Trillium Creek Ohio Dermatology include topical and oral formulations. Oral antibiotics include Oracea, Doryx and Solodyn. A common topical treatment for acne rosacea is Metrogel, but sulfur based products may also be prescribed used. The medical professional at Trillium Creek also offer a new treatment to eliminate the appearance of facial veins (telangiectasias). This new treatment is called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL).
Dr. Torok also advises that it is important to pay attention to makeup and skin care products that are used by those with rosacea. People with rosacea have very sensitive skin so toners, alcohol based products and scrubs are not recommended. Ingredients like green tea, copper and benzoyl peroxide can be used safely instead.Learn More
Radiesse® is a long-lasting injectable filler used to smooth wrinkles and defects in the skin. It is the first calcium hydroxyapatite injectable implant used for soft tissue augmentation. Radiesse® is a proven safe and effective treatment for patients wishing to improve their appearance.
Many different parts of your face can be treated with Radiesse®. The deep nasolabial folds (folds that form from the nose to the corners of the mouth), depressed scars, acne scars, chin grooves, nasal defects and cheek hollows can all be enhanced.
Radiesse® treatment benefits:
- Immediate Results
- No Allergic Reaction
- Skin Remains Soft and Pliable
- Can be used alone or with other procedures such as laser rejuvenation, chemical peels and Botox®
Radiesse® treatments take about 30 minutes. A topical anesthetic may be used prior to injection. Radiesse® is injected directly under the wrinkle using a tiny needle. Because Radiesse® is not absorbed by the body, there is no need to “overfill.”
You can resume your normal activites immediately after treatment. Slight discomfort after the procedure can be controlled with ice. There is mild swelling, which disappears in 24 to 36 hours. Minimal bruising may occur, but can be covered with makeup.
The results of Radiesse® are immediate and last 12 to 18 months, with the best results seen at 4 weeks. The number of treatments depends on the area to be treated and the desired results. One treatment is usually sufficient and long lasting.Learn More
A wide range of substances can trigger contact dermatitis, including:
- Plants such as poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac
- Metals, particularly nickel and chromate found in earrings, watches, necklaces, buttons and belt buckles
- Chemicals such as solvents, detergents, alkalis and acids
- Fragrances found in lotions, shampoos, cosmetics and perfumes
- Latex and rubber found in gloves
- Over-the-counter topical medications including neomycin, bacitracin and hydrocortisone
- Other substances (preservatives in leather and clothing, hair dyes, nail polish additives, glues, etc.)
Botox® is a leading treatment for erasing and softening wrinkles and frown lines. Botox® can be used to effectively improve the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines in a matter of weeks. In addition, Botox® can be used for excessive sweating of the underarms or feet with the effects of treatments lasting up to 12 months.
Botox® is not a filler, but a protein that relaxes underlying muscles. Botox® works by blocking impulses from the nerves to the muscles that create expression lines.
Botox® injections have been used safely and effectively for over 10 years in treating many ophthamological and neurological disorders, and more recently have been used to treat migraine headaches. Botox® is approved by the FDA as a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles and expression lines, but cannot improve wrinkles due to aging and sun-damaged skin.
A small amount of Botox® is precisely injected into specific locations in the face, neck and/or lips through a tiny needle. The pain is minimal, and only a small amount of Botox® is required. You can resume normal activities immediately, but the muscle must be used actively in the first 2 hours to maximize the effect. Temporary bruising is the most common side effect, which can easily be covered with makeup.
Botox® smooths out expression lines, giving your face a more youthful and calm appearance. The effects of Botox® may be visible in 5 to 7 days. Maximum benefits are reached between 10 to 14 days.
After treatment, the skin remains smooth and unwrinkled. The untreated facial muscles contract as usual, allowing your normal facial expression to be unaffected.
The effects of Botox® usually lasts 4 to 6 months and then fade gradually. You will need to follow-up with treatments 2 to 3 times a year. Clinical studies show longer lasting effects after receiving multiple treatments over time.Learn More
Juvéderm™ is a dermal filler advance from Allergan, Inc., the makers of Botox® cosmetic. Juvéderm™ is a "next generation" smooth gel non-animal dermal filler that plumps lips, sculpts cheeks and fills in wrinkles and folds.
Juvéderm™ provides exceptional results that last up to 12 months or longer due to a special formulation that yields the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid available today. This process creates a smooth gel that flows easily into the skin, creating a soft, natural look. The smooth consistency of Juvéderm™ also helps to minimize the discomfort and swelling that can sometimes occur during other injection procedures.
Juvéderm™ treatment is effective for:
- Augmenting the lips
- Filling nasolabial folds (deep folds that form from the nose to the mouth)
- Shaping facial contours (such as on cheeks and chin)
- Treating smile lines (correcting thin, superficial lines around the eyes, mouth and forehead)
Juvéderm™ is injected into the skin using a fine needle. The injection process takes only about 15 minutes and results are immediate. Downtime is minimal and you can resume your normal activities right away.
Juvéderm™ is biosynthetic and of non-animal origin. Since it is not created from an animal source, there is little chance of an allergic reaction. It has been proven to be safe and effective for all skin types and colors.
Juvéderm™ can help return your face to its natural youthful shape. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results last about 6 months.Learn More
